Candy Kennedy – Trials and Errors

About Abcollie

Coon

Border Collies tend to be a lifestyle instead of a breed … so think very carefuly before you decide to get one :@) First you get the dog, then you want sheep and the next thing you know you’ve “bought the farm”!

My name is Candy Kennedy and I have been breeding, raising and training Border Collies to work livestock for over almost 30 years and I wouldn’t have it any other way – nor change a thing. I have trained hundreds and hundreds of dogs … a few very special ones ,  some good and others just average. But, each and everyone one of them made me a better trainer. For years I published the American Border Collie Magazine and after selling it I devoloped my web page calling it the ABCN (American Border Collie Network).

I give lessons and often after class … students will email trying to confirm they had understood their lesson.  I would email back individually and reiterate what we had worked on trying to make sure they have comprehended it correctly.

One day the thought crossed my mind instead of just answering emails individually I could *blog* my answers and  convey this information to more than just the student asking. Enjoy and I hope some of it is helpful to you and your dog.

  1. Hi Candy…..I’m so excited to see your training blog. I’ve got LOTS of questions. I don’t own one of your dogs, but maybe I’ll be so fortunate someday….you do a phenonmenal job on many different kinds and types.
Looking forward to reading your thoughts on training.
    See you very soon.

    Hi Candy,

Though I never heard your name before you came up at the top of my google search. I have two “Precious ones” Joey and Jessy. I live in the Netherlands and train my dogs at Serge van der Zweep’s school. I am now at the stage that I am looking for some land and sheep since I want to train them more than once or twice a week. This means that I also want to become a better trainer for my Collies. Your site is #1 on my list of useful sites.
